  • SBILab, Department of ECE, IIIT-Delhi in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Healthcare, IIIT-Delhi and the Infosys Centre for AI, IIIT-Delhi recently conducted a 5-day intensive faculty development program/ workshop on Image Segmentation from June 10-14, 2024, a foundational pillar in computer vision and machine learning. The workshop was meticulously designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in the latest image segmentation techniques. Details.
  • SBILab's Ph.D. candidate Vivek Ruhela successfully defended his thesis on 29th April 2024.
  • Prof. Anubha Gupta is honored to have been selected by ANRF, DST, Government of India, to participate in the ASEAN Women Scientist Conclave in Singapore from April 24-26, 2024. A total of 20 women scientists were selected by the ANRF, DST to participate in this international event. The event featured group discussions, pitch sessions, and presentations that facilitated the exchange of scientific knowledge among the scientists of ASEAN countries.
  • Prof. Anubha Gupta, in collaboration with Prof. Deepti R. Bathula from IIT-Ropar, Prof. Neelam Sinha from CBR-IISc, and Prof. Selin Aviyente from Michigan State University, successfully conducted a workshop on "Machine Learning for Neurodegenerative Disorders" at IEEE ISBI, held from May 27-30, 2024, Greece.The workshop provided a platform to discuss the latest and most innovative applications of machine learning in understanding neurodegeneration. The focus was on early diagnosis using modalities like EEG, MEG, and MRI to detect subtle changes in brain activity. Advanced machine learning techniques, including deep learning and causal modeling, were highlighted for their potential to enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve patient outcomes. The workshop was a significant step towards leveraging technology for better management of neurodegenerative disorders.
  • SBILab IIIT-Delhi in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Healthcare IIIT-Delhi conducted a hackathon in the area of Medical Imaging during RIISE, April 12-14, 2024. The hackathon focuses on developing computer-assisted diagnostic tools for precisely diagnosing cancer, particularly Multiple Myeloma (MM), a type of blood cancer, through advanced image processing/deep learning techniques.   • Explainable AI decision model for ECG data of Cardiac Disorders led by Dr Manu Kumar Shetty (MBBS, MD), Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, and Prof. Anubha Gupta, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi is the top winner of the INDIAai Lab2Market 2023. Lab2Market 2023 is a program designed to assist Indian university students and faculties in transforming their research into products done in partnership with the K-Tech Centre of Excellence for Data Science and AI.

  • SBILab's Ph.D. Candidate Vivek Ruhela and Ashutosh Vaish, under the supervision of Prof. Anubha Gupta, presented two individual posters at IEEE SPS Conclave (Delhi Chapter) and secured second and third positions, respectively for the presentations. Vivek Ruhela presented his published work miRPipe: A Unified Computational Framework for a Robust, Reliable, and reproducible Identification of Novel miRNAs from the RNA Sequencing Data.   • Prof. Anubha Gupta participated as panelist on "Introduction to Global Surgical Technologies and Frugal Innovation" at the Innovation in Global Surgery (ICIGS 2022), held at MAMC New Delhi in April 2022. Prof. Gupta discussed the role of innovative and cost-effective solutions in improving global surgical practices.
  • NeurIPS 2022 Competition Weakly Supervised Cell Segmentation in Multi-modality High-Resolution Microscopy Images is being co-organized by SBILab. This competition aims to benchmark cell segmentation methods that could be applied to various microscopy images across multiple imaging platforms and tissue types. We frame the cell segmentation problem as a weakly supervised learning task to encourage models that use limited labelled and many unlabelled images for cell segmentation as unlabelled images are relatively easy to obtain in practice. This competition could serve as an important step toward universal and fully automatic cell image analysis tools, greatly accelerating the rate of discovery from image-based biological and biomedical research.

  • Two research articles from SBILab were presented at IEEE 12th International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS-NETHEALTH 2020).
    (a) The article titled, "Understanding Function Brain Activation using Source Localization of EEG Signals in Motor Imagery Tasks ", authored by Mansi Saxena (Young Scientist, IIITD), Ekansh Sareen (Research Assistant, IIITD) and Anubha Gupta (Faculty, IIITD) focused on identifying activated brain areas corresponding to movement imagery tasks. This paper also won the best paper award.
    (b) Another article presented in this conference titled, "Predicting Human Response in Feature Binding Experiment Using EEG Data ", authored by Syesha Girdher (Associate Software Engineer Qualcomm India Pvt. Ltd.), Anubha Gupta (Faculty, IIITD), Snehlata Jaswal (Faculty,Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut) and Vinayak Naik (Faculty, BITS Pilani Goa) focused on utilizing EEG signals to predict human responses.

  • The article titled, "RNASeq profiling of deregulated miRs in CLL and their impact on clinical outcome " authored by Gurvinder Kaur (Senior Scientist, AIIMS), Vivek Ruhela (Ph.D. Student, IIITD), Lata Rani (Scientist, AIIMS), Anubha Gupta (Faculty, IIITD), Krishnamachari Sriram (Faculty, IIITD), Ajay Gogia (Faculty, AIIMS), Atul Sharma (Ph.D. Student, AIIMS), Lalit Kumar (Faculty, AIIMS) and Ritu Gupta (Faculty, AIIMS) is published in a very high impact factor journal- Blood Cancer Journal, Nature (Impact Factor: 7.895).
    In this article, IIITD team developed an in-house bioinformatics pipeline, MiRPipe, to analyze the genomics data for efficient identification of differentially expressed RNAs. AIIMS team clinically validated the association of differentially expressed miRNAs, obtained from MiRPipe, with potential prognostic indicators of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), a type of blood cancer. This research can help identify molecular biomarkers for improved prognosis and exploration of therapeutic targets for CLL in the future.

  • Prof. Matti Latva-aho, Director for 6G Flagship, University of Oulu, Finland, delivered a talk on the topic "Key drivers and research challenges for 6G" on 12th December 2019 at IIIT-Delhi. In his talk, he emphasized that as 5G research is maturing towards a global standard, the research community must focus on the development of beyond-5G solutions and 2030 era, i.e. 6G.
  • Prof. Gaurav Sharma, professor in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Biostatistics and Computational Biology, and a Distinguished Researcher in Center of Excellence in Data Science (CoE) at the Goergen Institute for Data Science at the University of Rochester, delivered a talk on the topic "Set Theoretic Feasibility and Optimality Frameworks for Data Hiding and Privacy" on 10th December 2019 @ IIIT-Delhi.
